Welcome to the exciting website devoted to the science field of Forensic Comparison Microscopy. This site caters to the specific needs of the crime scene investigator or police laboratory technician who utilizes forensic microscopes. The forensic microscope comes in two common types. The first is the most common, and is used for comparing bullet casings and cartridges, ejection markings, tool markings, and firing pins. Most any small item can be compared under this type of forensic microscope.
Other examples would be seeds, wire and threads, fabric patterns, hair samples, etc. Most all police crime labs would carry one of these low power forensic microscopes. The other type of forensic microscope is the high power forensic microscope. This is used for comparison of the smallest specimens, usually those that fit on a microscope glass slide and are examined using transmitted brightfield illumination. Examination and comparison of forensic evidence such as bodily fluids and other fluids may also be done under the high power comparison microscope. Each type has a comparison bridge that spans two seperate and independent microscope systems.
The bridge allows a split screen image of both microscopes to be displayed in the eyepieces. Some comparison bridges allow the movement of the split screen line so more or less of either the left or the right image can be seen simply by moving the comparison line knob. If you working in a small crime lab, private investigator office, or even working as expert witness for a defense attorney, please contact us about how our equipment can fill your forensic comparison microscopy needs.
